sitting outside the coop, i tell sylvia about a recent epiphany i had--the product of days of soul searching, you can be sure--on why i am attracted to a certain improbable person. after a long and thoughtful explanation, involving spirituality, doubt, and a perceived void in my life, she looks thoughtful and sympathetic. and then, to respond, she says: "i think the reason why i like that boy in my class is because i want to have his babies."
